Using TV & Film to Unpack Four Frames of Race Neutrality

Participants will learn and discuss Bonilla-Silva’s (2013) four frames of race neutrality (abstract liberalism, naturalization, cultural racism, and minimization of racism) using excerpts from television and film as texts for analysis and meaning making.  

 

Building Capacity to Recognize Oppression

Participants will walk through a series of activities to understand and recognize Young's (2004) "Five Faces of Oppression" which manifest in the forms of exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence.

 

Worth a Thousand Words: Using Photos to Elicit Diverse Narratives

Zora, Beyoncé, & Maxine: Understanding Black Feminist Thought and the Matrix of Domination

Participants will learn and discuss the basic tenets of black feminist thought (Collins, 2000) and analyze pop culture examples to understand the matrix of domination.
